This is an academic yet practical discussion of the research and practice of leadership, organizational change, and influence from the perspective of organizational culture and collective cognition. In this podcast, Drs. David W. Rausch and Christopher F. Silver discuss how leadership is more than an abstract construct, more than corporate-speak, and, most importantly, more than a positional title. The co-hosts discuss the current research in leadership theory, how some current forms of leadership are exclusionary, and how people with little positional power can gain influence in their organization for themselves and those around them. While working currently in academia, both Drs. Rausch and Silver have worked in a variety of professional fields in management and executive leadership roles, yet each co-host comes from humble beginnings prior to their various careers. These wide-reaching experiences have endowed the hosts will a common-sense approach to theory and research that they present in an accessible and easy to understand way. In this podcast, we discuss many of the difficult topics related to authority, both good and bad. We discuss the current research as it applies to professional practice, including tips for coping with difficult situations, avoiding toxic personalities and processes, and ultimately finding meaning in one’s life by being not simply a manager or leader but a LEADFluencer. -
