About the Podcast We say people should #ListentoBlackWomen and #LetBlackWomenLead, but do we know why? Further, do any of us really believe we are giving Black women permission to lead? Black women have been leading. We been ready. She (Been) Ready! Join author, psychologist, educator, and auntie, Dr. Wendi Williams in a conversation with and for Black women leaders that dismantles the myth that she is an unlikely leader. We assert, given the diverse experiences at the intersection of gender and anti-blackness racism, Black women, by necessity, lead. She (Been) Ready! Moving beyond hashtags, we get beneath and ground ourselves in the ’knowing’ that Black women and girls have always led and walked within a powerful positionality to inform change, development, and growth of organizations, communities, and institutions. This ’knowing’; is intergenerational and cosmological, made possible by the generosity of our ancestors, our mothers, our grandmothers, our aunties and daddies, uncles and pookie and them. She (Been) Ready! is a conversation centered in the legacy of Black women’s liberatory leadership praxis that articulates a path for thriving in the midst of contexts that would not otherwise have us and yet could not move without us. Each month, Dr. Wendi hosts a special guest, a Black woman leading. From time to time, she’ll also speak with folks who have experienced the power of Black women’s leadership or in the position to amplify it. But what we are really doing is excavating by elevating. Lifting up the leadership praxis of Black women, Dr. Wendi guides us to understanding “the why” we should #ListentoBlackWomen and #LetBlackWomenLead. Beyond hashtags, is a theory of liberatory leadership praxis that, like Harriet Tubman, and so many others, will lead us to our collective freedom. -
