Music education is an essential component of a well-rounded education – it catalyzes students’ academic achievement, increases their motivation for school, boosts their self-confidence, and supports their social and emotional well-being. Yet, far too many students do not have access to music education.
Education Through Music: The Podcast addresses this inequity by highlighting the value of music education to students, the critical role that qualified music teachers have in transforming classrooms into spaces of learning and discovery, and music’s unique ability to strengthen school communities.
Every month, podcast host and Education Through Music Instructional Supervisor, Noah Teachey, sits down with guest teachers, students, families, schools administrators, and education researchers to discuss the importance of music education in our schools and in the lives of the 20,000 students Education Through Music serves across New York City.
In ETM's newest podcast series, Notables, Noah sits down with leaders in the music, technology, finance, and related industries to learn about the influential role that music has played in their lives. Guests share formative experiences about being exposed to music at an earlier age, the ongoing impact of music on their careers, and their perspectives on the importance of ensuring all students have access to high quality music education at school.
Education Through Music is a 30 year-old music nonprofit organization that partners with under-resourced New York City schools to build sustainable music programs.
