Born Mlungisi Griffiths Khoza on 27 March 1986 in Soweto, DJ Bafana™ started collecting music in 1997 when he was 11 years old in grade 7. He used to exchange his music collection with like-minded friends from school. Now and then he would be invited or even offer to play at some neighborhood events. He learned how to DJ and Mix on Turntables and Vinyl in 2001, when he teamed up with 2 of his friends to form a DJ Crew. They were booked at numerous events around his neighborhood and surrounding areas. This includes clients such as Secondary and Primary Schools, DJing at Birthday and Graduation Celebrations, After Tears, etc. In 2005 he started attending weekly DJ, Music Production and Networking Sessions in Rosebank, North of Johannesburg. This was a defining era in his career, as he got to meet other like-minded youngsters who had aspirations to enhance their skills and chase after their dreams of entertaining diverse audiences the world around. It was during this era wherein he would stand in for other DJ Mentors at their sessions. He excelled as a stand in, to a point where he was the Resident Mentor for DJs every week. He has mentored numerous DJs that have gone to excel in their craft and thereby reach great milestones in the industry. In 2007, he partnered with a leading Record Label wherein he authored music reviews of their latest albums in a varsity tabloid. This partnership contributed to the surge in circulation numbers of that tabloid. In 2008, he co-organized the Varsity’s Fresher’s Bash with a varsity friend. This event included a DJ Lineup of industry heavyweights, some of which have gone to become DJ Bafana’s friends of late. In 2011 and 2012, he organized and hosted numerous events, which boasted leading entertainers in the country, such events drew support from neighboring as well as distant areas, thereby boosting tourism of the host area. In 2012 he founded his company called “626 Entertainment (PTY) LTD”. In 2015, 626 Entertainment started receiving and servicing orders from their first corporate client, being University of Johannesburg. Types of orders included: Sound System Hire, Lighting, Staging, Artist and DJ Bookings, Catering, etc. In 2016, 626 Entertainment secured and serviced their 2nd corporate client, being Stanlib. Which ordered services such as Sound System Hire and DJs. In 2017, 626 Entertainment serviced their 3rd corporate client, being BrightWave, for a Promotion. In 2018, 626 Entertainment serviced their 4th and 5th corporate clients, being Coface South Africa Insurance Company Ltd (“Coface”) and International Housing Solutions (“IHS”), for their Year End Functions, which occurred on the same date. 2019 proved to be the year wherein DJ Bafana™ and 626 Entertainment would ascend to the forefront of the Entertainment and Eventing Industries. In a relatively short space of time, DJ Bafana™ has managed to occupy Residency Status at a number of leading night spot brands, with a national footprint, such as the recently closed, Newscafe Soweto. He has secured Live Radio Interviews and DJ Mixes on stations such as Westside FM and Durban Youth Radio. He has shared the stage with numerous leading entertainers who are currently regarded as trendsetters. He recently went on his Debut Tour, which was around Kwazulu Natal Province, which saw him performing at leading venues such as Café La Plage in Umhlanga Ridge, Max Lifestyle, 033 Lifestyle & Capello Florida Road. 626 Entertainment has gone to secure orders from clients such as Revelation Church, FNB, Motsepe Foundation, etc. Recent projects for DJ Bafana™ include a performance on the final match at the Discovery Soccer Challenge Final at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto and performing on the main stage of the ANC 108th Annual Celebrations in Kimberley. DJ Bafana™ was the Main DJ at the KFCStreetWiseWedding, wherein he performed alongside the likes of Mafikizolo, Jaziel Brothers, Donald, Dr. Tumi, Amanda Black and Thando Thabethe. He holds certain charitable causes close to his heart, as such he has been donating to a leading multinational charity organization called Doctors Without Borders in tackling matters of concern to humanity. DJ Bafana™ is currently on high demand, with constant bookings that have seen him DJing every weekend since July 2019. DJ Bafana’s distinctive music selection, sharp fashion sense and bubbly character have afforded him an opportunity to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This has also afforded him an opportunity to represent some brands that have come to identify him as their Ambassador. An example would be a Brand from Soweto called Going Places aka GP. His exceptional business acumen, has seen him secure interesting deals with leaders of various industries. DJ Bafana™ is currently spearheading a CSI Project called School Tour SA, which focuses on empowering Secondary School Learners. DJ Bafana™ has his sights set on improving 626 Entertainment’s service offering. He’s hard at work, constantly considering various potentially viable alternatives on which to expand 626 Entertainment. There is no end in sight to the evolving of DJ Bafana™ and 626 Entertainment. There is definitely more to look forward to in the not so distant future.
